The 1 Day Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course is designed for employees who have been appointed to take charge of first aid arrangements in the event of a workplace emergency.
This practical course provides delegates with the knowledge, confidence and hands-on skills needed to respond effectively to accidents or sudden illness until a qualified First Aider or the emergency services take over.
It is suitable for a wide range of workplaces and is ideal where a full First Aid at Work qualification is not required following a workplace risk assessment.
What the Course Covers
- Aims and principles of first aid
- What to do in an emergency
- Adult CPR and basic life support
- AED use and the chain of survival
- Seizures
- Shock
- Burns and scalds
- Choking (adult)
- Assessing the situation and managing a casualty
- Management of the unconscious casualty
- Assessment and treatment of wounds and bleeding
- Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations
Delegates should be aware that the course is practical in nature, and comfortable clothing should be worn.
Assessment & Certification
Assessment is carried out through continuous observation and short written exercises. Written elements are straightforward, but candidates must have a basic command of English.
Successful delegates receive an Emergency First Aid at Work certificate, valid for three years.
