CITB Site Managers Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) – Day Release

Flexible CITB SMSTS Training for Site Managers

5-day course | Classroom | Certificate valid 5 years

The CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) – Day Release course provides the same nationally recognised qualification as the block booking option, but is delivered across five separate training days rather than consecutive days. This flexible format is ideal for site managers and employers who prefer training spread out over time while maintaining continuity of learning.

The course is designed for those responsible for planning, organising, monitoring and controlling construction work, with a strong focus on legal compliance, leadership responsibilities and practical site management.

All course materials are included, including the latest edition of the CITB GE700: Construction Site Safety – Health, Safety and Environmental Information Manual.

If you would prefer to complete the qualification in one intensive week, please see our SMSTS Block Booking Course.

Who Is the SMSTS Day Release Course For?

This training is ideal for:

  • Site managers and project managers
  • Aspiring site managers preparing for a leadership role
  • Supervisors progressing into management positions
  • Construction professionals responsible for site safety
  • Employers seeking a flexible training solution for managers

The Day Release format is particularly popular where operational commitments make a full week away from site impractical.

What the SMSTS Day Release Course Covers

The full CITB SMSTS syllabus is delivered across five training days, covering:

  • Current health, safety, welfare and environmental legislation
  • The site manager’s legal duties and responsibilities
  • Planning and controlling work safely
  • Risk assessment and method statement management
  • Implementing effective control measures
  • Developing and maintaining a positive safety culture
  • Leadership, communication and behavioural safety
  • Accident prevention and incident investigation
  • Industry best practice and up-to-date guidance
  • CDM Regulations and duty-holder responsibilities

Spreading the course across separate days allows delegates to reflect on learning, apply knowledge on site between sessions and return with practical questions.

Course Materials & Assessment

Included with the course:

  • CITB GE700 manual (latest edition)
  • All learning materials and course handouts
  • Ongoing tutor support throughout the programme

Assessment

Delegates are assessed through:

  • A final examination
  • Tutor-reviewed exercises and discussions completed during the course

On successful completion, delegates receive a CITB SMSTS certificate, valid for 5 years.

To remain certified, delegates must complete the 2-day SMSTS Refresher (SMSTS-R) before expiry.
